EXTENDED HOURS AND INCREASED CAPACITY

People across Leicestershire and Rutland are benefitting from improved access to local NHS dental care after NHS England Central Midlands awarded an additional NHS contract for dental services to the Whitehouse. Coming into effect on 1 December 2017, the contract commissioned by NHS England Central Midlands delivers extended access hours for routine and urgent dental care at the Whitehouse Dental Surgery in Leicester’s Stoneygate/Evington ward, including two evening surgeries and a Saturday morning service.

The new general dental service contract has been commissioned by NHS England in response to an assessment of local dental needs in Leicestershire and Rutland. This assessment identified priority areas where improved access to NHS dental services was required, determining the locations of the general dental practices.

Di Pegg, Head of Primary Care for NHS England in Leicestershire and Rutland, said: “Having looked at the overall picture in Leicestershire and Rutland and gained an understanding of which areas are most in need of better access to dental care, we’re delighted to be able to deliver new NHS services where people need it the most.

“That’s great news for people right across the area, who from December will find it much easier to benefit from routine, urgent and out-of-hours NHS dental care closer to where they live.
Philip Martin, Senior Director and Clinical Lead at Whitehouse Dental Surgery, said: “We have a great team here at the Whitehouse, who are all delighted with this additional NHS investment, because it will enable us to provide more high-quality dentistry for the people of Leicester and the surrounding area.”
